WOW Farm Fall 2017 Application

PAID INTERNSHIP: Run a small farm business in West Oakland!

Game Theory Academy (GTA) and West Oakland Woods Farm (WOW) are recruiting youth for our business and farm management program. Internship Description

– Work collaboratively with a team of youth to grow organic food and flowers for sale to local restaurants and markets

– Learn business vocabulary, money management, and strategic thinking, and use these skills to participate in business decisions that have a financial, social and environmental impact

– Plan workdays and monitor necessary farm tasks

– Meet inspiring mentors and leaders in the food justice and entrepreneurship fields

– Career preparation: mock interviews, informational interviews, and resume-writing

– Earn $60/week (up to $700!)



The program will run from September 9, 2017 through November 18, 2017. You must be able to participate in 8 program hours each week:

– Mondays, 4-6pm: Business and money management classes at GTA office

–  Tuesdays or Wednesdays 4-6pm: Farming outside at WOW Farm

– Saturdays, 9am-1pm: Farming outside at WOW Farm


In order to qualify, you must:

  1. Be an Oakland student age 15-18.
  2. Be able to attend weekly Monday meetings from 4-6pm at Game Theory Academy in Downtown Oakland.
  3. Attend farm days on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 4-6pm and Saturdays 9am-1pm at WOW Farm in West Oakland.
  4. Be willing to enthusiastically participate in group discussions and classroom activities focused on economics and entrepreneurship.
  5. Be willing and able to complete physical tasks in an outdoor environment, where mud and bugs are often present!
  6. Clearly tell us why you’re interested in entrepreneurship and farming.
